During the “Design of specialized subjects” course, students of architecture take advantage of the opportunity to examine questions of art and the public sphere within the exhibition “Utopia and Monument II.”
The projects they develop take on artistic and architectural forms: starting with projects that extend the pavilion with additional installations, seeking to open it up as a centre of communication where people can dwell, obtain information, and engage in discussion. For example, by means of information boards and seats around the pavilion that are made of the same material that was not used for the re-installation of the pavilion this year; “reading bags” floating above the pavilion’s stage and information room, and a camera obscura that plays with inside and outside in the library container of the exhibition venue. Signs were also installed at the steirischer herbst festival centre in order to draw attention to the pavilion as the hub of the exhibition. In addition to the installation works, there is also a red thread in the form of performances that deals with questions of “Utopia and Monument II,” visualizing them in an imaginary community.

Presentation of the works of the students on 30/09, 07/10 & 14/10, each at 5 pm.
From 11/10 - 23/10 a course on “Utopia and Monument II” will take place in the pavilion.
