Guilty Guitars - Four Solo Performers
Series of electronic music concerts
27% music
35% noise
38% guitars

Four artists who stand for an unconventional handling of the guitar; four different approaches that all see the instrument not only as a limited means of generating sound by way of virtuoso playing, but rather as a source of sound itself.

Wed 29/09, 9.30 pm
Keith Rowe (GB)
Briton Keith Rowe is an old master of free improvisation, his playful handling of the electric guitar – by means of modification, by using radios and other electronic sound sources, or using third-bridge guitars – has substantially pushed the envelope of the instrument.

Wed 06/10, 9.30 pm
Tomas Korber (CH)
Swiss composer Tomas Korber can be seen as a successor of Keith Rowe – however, he refuses to be tied down to the notion of improvisation and also cites Francisco López, Bernhard Günther or John Duncan as having influenced his solo performances with guitar, effect equipment and computer.

Sat 09/10, 11 pm
Helmut-List-Halle
Martin Siewert (A/D)
The Austrian Martin Siewert, a familiar face at the festival, is a virtuoso of the guitar. A soloist who broke away at an early stage from the academic conventions of jazz – with improvised, composed, acoustic and electronic music – as part of various bands and as a collaborator on performance projects.

Wed 13/10, 9.30 pm
Bill Orcutt (USA)
Bill Orcutt, a former member of the Miami noise rock legend Harry Pussy, is currently enjoying great success with his solo guitar album ”A New Way To Pay Old Debts”. Wire compares his individual style of playing an old open-tuned guitar with just four strings, amplified by pick-ups, to Derek Baily.
Followed by
Ignatz (B)
The Brussels based artist Bram Devens uses Ignatz, a vicious mouse in the comic ”Krazy Kat”, as his alter-ego. Acoustic songs wrapped with effects and driven by improvisation and spontaneousness.
