Irvine Arditti and his ensemble are presenting a range of all-new string quartets, half of them commissioned by musikprotokoll: the composition of Vienna-based Italian Pierluigi Billone, whose fine, non-tonal webs of sound have an almost sculptural quality, is followed by the première of Olga Neuwirth’s latest piece, whose first string quartet opened musikprotokoll in 1995. The programme broadens to include distinctive European positions, with new pieces by Hugue Dufourt and James Clarke.
